About Us
Albert Ernest Backus (American 1906 – 1990) was the “Dean of Florida Landscape Painters.” No other 20th century artist captured the Florida light quite like he could. Backus came into prominence as a national artist in the 1960s when his work was hung in President Lyndon B. Johnson’s library in Texas and in Senate offices in Washington, D.C. In 1993 he was inducted into the Florida Artists Hall of Fame along with other great Florida artists such as Ernest Hemmingway, Ray Charles and Jimmy Buffett.

Now you can have your own beautiful collection of A.E Backus' work with museum quality reproductions offered exclusively by the A.E. Backus Museum and its authorized dealers. The A.E. Backus Museum was established in 1960. It is located in historic downtown Fort Pierce and features the Nation's largest display of original paintings by A.E. Backus. Please visit the A.E.
